Selling luxury watches on eBay.de (Germany)

eBay.de selling rules for watch dealers, in English: Echtheitsprüfung from €1,500, German fees and Shop tiers, category choice, and listing standards.

This guide covers eBay.de (Germany) only, written in English for international dealers and internal reference. A German-language version of this same guide is available for publishing to German dealers. Authenticity Guarantee thresholds, selling fees and eligibility rules are set per marketplace and do not transfer across borders. A watch listed on eBay.com is not covered by eBay.de's Echtheitsprüfung. Selling in the US? Use the eBay.com guide. In the UK? Use the eBay.co.uk guide.

A practical guide to eBay.de for watch dealers. All figures sourced from eBay.de's official Verkäuferportal and Help pages. German terminology given in brackets so you can find the same rule on the German site. Last verified: 13 August 2026.

Always check eBay's own pages before you act on a figure here

eBay changes fees, thresholds and programme rules regularly, the UK and German rate cards both changed in February 2026. Every section below links to the official eBay page it came from, so you can verify any number in one click.

This guide reflects eBay's published documentation as of 13 August 2026. Where eBay has updated since, eBay's page is authoritative, not this one. If you spot a discrepancy, tell us at sales@worldwatch.market and we'll correct it.

Quick wins: do these five things first

  1. Check your category, it's worth about €33 per watch. Armband- & Taschenuhren (#260325) is 11% up to €400 with a Shop. The parent Uhren & Schmuck (#281) is 16% up to €500. On any watch above €990 the wrong category costs exactly €33 more, on every single sale.
  2. A Basis Shop pays for itself on one watch a month. With a Shop the 11% band stops at €400 instead of €990, saving exactly €47.20 on every watch above €990. The Basis Shop costs €39.95/month. One watch covers it.
  3. Price deliberately against the €1,500 threshold. At €1,500+ (excluding shipping) the Echtheitsprüfung applies automatically and free to you, including a free prepaid shipping label. Below that you carry the return risk yourself.
  4. Claim the Wachstumsrabatt, up to 20% off your total selling commission. It requires service status Verkäufer mit Top-Bewertung or Überdurchschnittlich. At 40%+ revenue growth your commission drops by a fifth.
  5. Use all 80 characters in your title, brand, model, reference number, case size, material, movement, year.

The most common avoidable mistake: offering a qualifying watch as collection only (Abholung), or allowing delivery to a Packstation, P.O. Box or an address outside Germany. Each of these disqualifies the listing and removes the badge.

Total€122.45€169.65

In the wrong category (#281, with Shop) the same watch costs €155.45, €33.00 more.

Context: the same 3,000-unit watch costs a US dealer with a Store about $205 and a UK dealer about £175. Germany is materially the cheapest of the three marketplaces for professional watch dealers.

Insertion fees (Angebotsgebühr)

Source: Listings without insertion fee

  • Without a Shop: fixed-price listing €0.35, auction listing €0.50, charged from the first listing, no free allowance.
  • With a Shop: see allowances below.

Shipping abroad also disqualifies the Echtheitsprüfung. On a watch above €1,500 an international sale means losing the badge and paying the international fee.

2. The Echtheitsprüfung (Authenticity Guarantee)

Thresholds

€1,500+Applies automatically, mandatoryeBay, free to you, express shipping included

There is no opt-in and no opt-out, qualifying listings are enrolled automatically.

Unresolved conflict: eBay.de's watch browse pages display "Mit Echtheitsprüfung ab 450 €". Every help and terms page states €1,500 / €1,000. Verify in the live listing flow before relying on either figure.

What qualifies

Source: Echtheitsprüfung: seller page

Eligible:

  • Watches in the primary category "Armbanduhren" (wristwatches), new and pre-owned
  • 70+ brands including Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, TAG Heuer, Cartier, Breitling
  • Vintage watches, provided all other conditions are met

Not eligible:

  • Customised watches (individualisierte Uhren), modified beyond aftermarket replacement parts. The most common trade disqualification.
  • Engraved watches (gravierte Uhren)
  • Smart watches, fitness trackers, watch parts, watch accessories
  • Collection-only listings (Abholung)
  • Delivery to Postfach, Packstation or Postfiliale
  • International shipping outside Germany
  • Sales outside eBay.de

Pocket watches: unresolved. The help page lists "Armbanduhren oder Taschenuhren" as qualifying; the terms list Taschenuhren among excluded items. Both are official eBay.de pages.

The process

Source: Echtheitsprüfung: seller page

  1. Watch sells → you ship to the authentication team, not to the buyer
  2. Shipping deadline: within 3 business days (Werktage) or sooner on eBay-shipping orders
  3. You receive a free prepaid shipping label
  4. Inspection within 2 business days of receipt
  5. On passing: express shipment to the buyer
  6. Orders of €550 or more require a signature on delivery

If it fails

"If the item's authenticity cannot be confirmed, or if the item deviates from the listing description, you will be notified and the buyer receives a full refund."

The item is not forwarded to the buyer.

Returns

Source: Buying with Echtheitsprüfung

  • Returns go to the authentication team, not directly to you.
  • Within 2 business days of receipt they verify it is the same item, authenticity, condition, original packaging and accessories.
  • "If a change is detected, the item is returned to you and the buyer receives no refund." The protection runs in both directions.

3. Shipping and packing checklist

  • Ship to the Echtheitsprüfung address in your order details, never to the buyer.
  • Use the free prepaid eBay label, it carries the code the authenticator needs to match the order.
  • Ship within 3 business days.
  • Pack tight, bubble wrap or tissue paper, nothing moving inside the box.
  • Send only what you listed. No extras, no business cards.
  • Send the collateral you listed, box, papers, spare links, warranty card.

4. Building the listing

Shot list: dial straight on · caseback · both sides of the case, lugs, crown guard · clasp inside and out with reference codes · bracelet condition shown honestly · every scratch and ding close up · box, papers, warranty card, spare links · only what the buyer will receive.

Item specifics (Artikelmerkmale)

Source: Item specifics lists

The watch category has mandatory item specifics. Complete all required fields and as many recommended ones as possible, buyers filter by these, and your listing only appears in a filtered result if the matching specific is populated.

Relevant for watches: Brand, Model, Reference Number, Case Material, Case Size, Movement, Year of Manufacture, Band Material, Dial Colour, Water Resistance.

The authoritative field list is published by eBay.de only as a downloadable file ("Verpflichtende Artikelmerkmale … in der Kategorie Uhren") in the Verkäuferportal. Download and check it against your listing template.

Description

State explicitly: provenance, full condition, service and repair history, any customisation, and every defect. The authenticator checks the watch against your photos and description, a mismatch fails the item just as a counterfeit does.

5. Status and discounts

Verkäufer mit Top-Bewertung (Top Rated Seller), requirements

Source: Seller performance standards

  • Account active for at least 90 days
  • At least 100 transactions in the last 12 months
  • At least €1,000 in sales with buyers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland
  • Defect rate ≤ 0.5%, from no more than 3 different buyers
  • Cases closed without seller resolution ≤ 0.3%, no more than 2
  • Late shipments ≤ 3%, no more than 5
  • Seller resident in DE/AT/CH

Important difference from the US and UK: Top-Bewertung status on its own carries no commission discount on eBay.de. It is, however, the eligibility gate for the growth discount.

eBay Top-Service (badge)

Requirements include: Top-Bewertung or "Überdurchschnittlich" status · late deliveries ≤ 5% · missing tracking numbers ≤ 10% · a fixed-price option in the listing · item location in Germany · free domestic shipping · handling time max. 1 day, delivery incl. handling max. 3 days · tracking from €10 item value · returns within at least 30 days · return address in Germany.

Benefit: higher visibility and conversion, at no cost.

6. Pre-flight checklist

  • Primary category is Armbanduhren (#260325 branch), not Uhren & Schmuck
  • Price set deliberately against the €1,500 threshold
  • No customisation, no engraving (or listed deliberately outside the programme)
  • Title uses all 80 characters, reference number included
  • 12–24 photos, ≥1600×1600 px, no filters, no watermarks, all flaws shown
  • All mandatory Artikelmerkmale completed
  • Shipping: within Germany only, no collection, no Postfach/Packstation
  • Dispatch to the authenticator planned within 3 business days
  • Shop subscription active if you sell at least one watch above €990 per month

Why list through Worldwatch

We handle every technical requirement for you.

Every eBay requirement in this guide, Artikelmerkmale, photo standards, category placement, Echtheitsprüfung eligibility, shipping configuration, is handled on our side. A listing published from Worldwatch is built to eBay's current technical specification, so you don't have to track fee changes, new mandatory item specifics or shifting programme thresholds yourself.

That is a competitive advantage over dealers listing without us. Correctly structured listings surface in more filtered searches and more comparison results, which means potentially more buyers finding you.

We also have direct contact with eBay, and we're here to assist you.
